Accreditation and MQF level
A CPD Award accredited with 4 ECTS credits (MQF Level 4) by the Malta Further & Higher Education Authority (MFHEA) in Business English will be presented to delegates who successfully attend all modules and obtain a minimum pass in the relative assessment.
The course will be assessed by a 30 minute oral examination (25% weighting) and a final 2.5 hours written examination (75% weighting).
Entry requirements
O-Level English or equivalent or a good grasp of basic spoken and written English.
Target Audience
The target groups for this Business English course are students and business professionals including entrepreneurs who would like to improve their reading, listening, spoken and written business english.

Module 1: Listening and Speaking

The module will be assessed through oral examination and oral exercises.
The learner will be able to:
- Appreciate the use of key business vocabulary
- Be aware of conversational techniques and how to engage conversation
- Appreciate different ways of how to interact professionally through the day situations
- Handling internal and external telephone conversations professionally
- Discover the importance of business english during a business negotiation
- Know how to acquire and maintain good standard of english whilst increasing fluency and overall competence
- Understand voice projection and pronunciation
- Discover practical techniques of effective listening of business related conversations
- Conversing professionally in difficult situations (dealing with customer complaints etc.)
Module 2: Reading & Writing

The module will be assessed through a written test.
The learner will be able to:
- Become knowledgeable of different reading techniques
- Appreciate the importance of reading and understanding at the same time
- Be aware of the importance of controlling reading speed
- Appreciate the importance of breathing correctly whilst reading
- Appreciate the use of an english dictionary to increase understanding and variety
- Appreciate the importance of having clear objectives before writing a business report/letter/email/policy
- Appreciate the different designs to the structure of a business report/memo/policy
- Be aware of the use of mind mapping to develop writing
- Appreciate the importance of how to give bad news in writing
- Know how to structure and write an executive summary
- Be familiar with editing and proof reading techniques
