This module will enable the learner to

• List number of important mandatory documents required for payroll purposes
• Describe the purpose of important entities such as the ETC, IRD and Social Security Department
• Describe the importance of a payroll system
• Be coherent with control sheets (excel) used for payroll control purpose
• Prepare list of required documents to be able to draft a basic contract of employment (with minimum details required by law)
• Create an organised filing system for employees
• Identify from where he/she can obtain important information related to payroll calculation
• Categorise the different types of employment contracts
• Advice on income tax rates applicable to different employees
• Comply with laws and regulations in relation to payroll and employment;
• Advice company directors and other managers on compliance issues with respect to payroll and employment;
• Develop an efficient records management system with respect to payroll and employment information;
• Represent the employer with relevant authorities in relation to basic payroll and employment issues.

JeanBert is the Payroll and Human Resources Manager of a group of companies in Malta that employ over 1,000 employees. After leaving the Junior College, JeanBert graduated in Management Studies at the University of Malta.

He has been involved in this line of business for over 13 years with vast experience in the Local Employment Law, Payroll procedures, local Income Tax and HR procedures. Working in a group of companies led to JeanBert having experience in different type of industries on the local scene; hence abreast of different wage regulation orders that control payroll in Malta.

Since 2012, he has been lecturing on various subjects related to Employment in Malta.
